
The Rainoil Tennis Tournament witnessed intense competition as Aurum Tennis Academy players took to the courts, showcasing resilience and skill. This also saw the debut of Michael Emmanuel who just recently joined Aurum along with Mubarak Ganiyu and Success Ogunjobi.
Quarterfinals: A Tough Battle in Singles
In the men’s and women’s singles quarterfinals, Michael, popularly known as Akpan, delivered a spirited performance against Iloputa Ikechukwu. Despite his efforts, he narrowly lost in straight sets, 5-7, 5-7. Likewise, Success Ogunjobi put up a valiant fight against Etoro Bassey, taking the first set in a thrilling tiebreak. However, Bassey fought back, and the match ended 7-6 (5), 2-6, 3-6 in favor of Bassey.

Semi-Finals: Doubles Drama
The doubles semi-finals saw mixed results for Aurum’s athletes. In the men’s doubles, Michael Emmanuel (Akpan) and his partner Abamu faced Abua/Mohammed in a nail-biting three-setter. After a hard-fought battle, they fell short with a 2-6, 6-2, 7-10 scoreline.
On the women’s side, Success Ogunjobi and her partner Bamidele delivered an outstanding performance, triumphing over Mohammed/Udofa. Their straight-set victory, 7-6 (4), 6-3, secured them a place in the championship finals.
Championship Finals: A Close Contest in Women’s Doubles
The women's doubles final was nothing short of a thriller, as Aurum’s Success Ogunjobi and Bamidele clashed with Bassey/Omotayo. The match swung back and forth, with both pairs displaying incredible shot-making and determination. After splitting the first two sets, the championship was decided in a tense match tiebreak, where Bassey/Omotayo edged out the victory, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-10.
